Magenta Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Fresh Multicolour Paalum Pazhamum Checks
Magenta Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Fresh Multicolour Paalum Pazhamum Checks
The mehendi cones are passed around, turmeric paste is dabbed on foreheads, and the whole family piles onto one sofa for photos before the real ceremony even begins — this is the saree for that joyful, unscripted afternoon before the wedding. Paalum Pazhamum describes a vibrant multicolour check pattern created through the intersection of differently coloured silk threads in the warp and weft. Each saree takes 9 days on the loom and cannot be replicated by machine. Woven by our family's artisan weaver families in Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — read our story.
The body itself is woven in Paalum Pazhamum checks — magenta, pink, cream, and mustard threads intersecting across the full length of the drape. This particular colour combination is a fresh, unusual take on the traditional weave, moving away from the more common check colourways toward something brighter and more contemporary. Explore more pure silk Kanchipuram silks.
The border is finished in gold zari with a scalloped temple edge, and small gold butta dots are scattered through the check — genuine gold zari throughout, since Paalum Pazhamum is not a no-zari weave.
Pair with a mustard or cream silk blouse and playful gold jewellery — well suited to a haldi or mehendi ceremony, a bridal shower, or any pre-wedding function where colour and joy are the point.
