Leaf Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Rettapet Saree with Navy Blue Bird Motif Gold Zari Border

Leaf Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Rettapet Saree with Navy Blue Bird Motif Gold Zari Border

Leaf green silk gives this Kanjipuram a luminous, almost jewel-like body, while its Rettapet treatment introduces deep navy and classic gold at the edge. Repeated woven bird forms bring a distinctly traditional rhythm to the border before the saree opens into a rich tonal green-and-gold pallu.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree took 43 days — dyeing, threading, and roughly 18 on the loom — to complete.

This is a confirmed Rettapet composition in pure mulberry silk, defined by traditional twin-register border detailing against an otherwise open leaf-green body. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A deep navy-blue contrast register carries repeated stylised bird motifs in classic-gold zari, framed by fine geometric and triangular edging. A broader tonal green-and-gold register visible through the folded border continues the bird vocabulary with additional floral and geometric supporting bands.

Pallu: The tonal green pallu becomes substantially richer than the body, with an expansive classic-gold zari field built from closely ordered diamond and lozenge geometry. Bright green tassels finish the edge, reinforcing the saree’s saturated green-and-gold colour story.

Styling: A deep navy blouse would repeat the darkest border register, while antique gold creates a more ceremonial finish. Pair with compact temple earrings, a low centre-parted bun and jasmine for traditional programs. For evening receptions, keep the necklace minimal and add a navy or dark-green potli so the woven border remains the focal point.

Current Look: Dark green Kanchi silk and substantial gold weaving are also present in recent ceremonial dressing. Rani Mukerji’s September 2026 appearance was identified as a dark-green zari-kattam Kanchi silk saree. This Idam Living saree is a separate handwoven Rettapet composition, distinguished by its navy bird-motif registers and tonal geometric gold-zari pallu.

The green, navy and classic-gold palette works naturally for Navratri gatherings, Vijayadashami, Deepavali, Karthigai Deepam, temple programs, weddings, Carnatic music evenings, classical dance programs, festive occasions, ceremonies and cultural gatherings.

Frequently bought together

What makes this leaf green Kanjipuram a Rettapet saree?
Rettapet refers to the traditional twin-register or double-border detailing that structures the ornamental edge of this saree. The primary product classification remains Rettapet.
What can be confirmed about the bird motifs in the navy blue border?
The deep navy-blue register carries repeated stylised bird motifs in classic-gold zari, framed by geometric and triangular edging. A more specific traditional bird identity is not assigned unless separately confirmed.
How would you style the leaf green, navy and gold palette?
A deep navy blouse repeats the darkest border register, while tonal green keeps the saree more continuous. Antique-gold jewellery and a restrained navy or dark-green accessory allow the Rettapet border to remain the focal point.
Can Idam Living stitch a blouse for this saree?
Yes. Custom blouse stitching is available as an add-on. A navy, tonal leaf-green or restrained antique-gold direction can be considered to coordinate with this saree.
How should this handwoven Kanchipuram silk be cared for?
Dry clean only, store folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, and avoid spraying perfume directly onto the silk or zari.
