Kesari Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Border

Kesari Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Border

For a gathering that calls for the quiet authority of Kanchipuram silk, this Kesari-orange red Varisaipet saree brings colour and movement into conversation. Fine bands of zari catch the light with each fold, while the richly arranged border lends a ceremonial finish.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Varisaipet tradition, the saree is framed by a sequence of traditional border bands, each one contributing a distinct rhythm. Across the body, different fine Veldhari zari lines create a shifting radiance as the silk moves and folds. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Body: Luminous Kesari-red silk, between ripe pomegranate skin and the warm orange-red glow of a marigold garland, traversed by fine gold Veldhari lines.

Border: An ornate thanga-gold Varisaipet border with deep Kathiripoo-purple bands, a slender green accent at the far end, and repeated circular ornamental zari medallions between smaller patterned registers.

Pallu: A contrasting Kathiripoo mauve-purple field carrying varied fine gold zari vertical lines, a broad green-and-gold banded end, and vivid orange-pink tassels.

Styling: Pair with a Kathiripoo-purple blouse or a quiet antique-gold blouse, temple-style earrings and fresh jasmine. Keep the jewellery restrained enough to let the vivid red silk and layered gold border lead. A lovely choice for a wedding ceremony, a festive gathering or a classical performance.

Frequently bought together

What is Varisaipet in this Kanchipuram saree?
Varisaipet refers to a traditional arrangement of multiple border bands. Here, the contrasting colour registers and fine zari detailing build a richly layered frame around the silk.
Why do the Veldhari lines seem to change as the saree moves?
The Kesari-orange red body carries a sequence of narrow gold zari bands. Their reflective threads catch light differently across pleats and folds, giving the surface a gently shifting glow.
How does the contrasting pallu change the look of this saree?
The a contrasting kathiripoo mauve-purple brings a softer contrasting note to the Kesari-orange red body. It can be allowed to fall over the shoulder to show the vertical gold detailing.
Can Idam Living suggest a custom blouse for this saree?
Yes. A blouse in purple or antique gold would pick up colours from this saree. Idam Living offers custom blouse stitching; share your measurements and preferred neckline or sleeve style to discuss the design.
How should I care for the silk and zari?
Dry clean only. Store folded in soft muslin away from direct sunlight, refold periodically, and avoid spraying perfume directly onto the silk or zari.
