Kathiripoo Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Twin Peacock Border
Kathiripoo Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Twin Peacock Border
For a wedding gathering or a quiet evening of celebration, kathiripoo purple silk carries the poetry of Kanchipuram: a softened orchid-purple, recalling kathiripoo petals at dusk, with a gentle rose-mauve cast in the silk and warm antique-gold zari.
❖ Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — this saree spent 18 days on the loom, woven by artisan families who have practiced this craft for generations.

Woven in the Rettapet tradition, this pure mulberry silk saree balances petite elephant buttas across the body with a distinctive double-border composition. A softened orchid-purple, recalling kathiripoo petals at dusk, with a gentle rose-mauve cast in the silk and warm antique-gold zari. The closely ordered zari elements bring a measured shimmer rather than an uninterrupted metallic surface. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: A narrow vermilion-red selvedge traces the hem; the border reads as antique-gold twin peacocks within scrolling floral arches. In Kanchipuram terminology, Rettapet describes the double-border arrangement; the paired mayil (peacock) figures have ornamental plumage and floral scrollwork.
Pallu: The pallu opens into measured vertical gold bands, fine lines and densely arranged mayil-vanki-like curving motifs with kodi-malar floral detailing; its mauve-purple ground glows softly. Explore the Rettapet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Pair with a muted gold or aubergine blouse, heirloom gold earrings and a restrained bindi.
