Kathiri Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Butta Saree with Vairaoosi-Style Zari Lines and Gold Border

Deep Kathiri purple gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram the colour of ripe aubergine skin under low evening light. The silk approaches blackened plum through the deeper folds, then opens into a richer violet-purple wherever the surface catches light, creating a dark ceremonial colour without moving into maroon or brown.

The body is a confirmed Butta composition, enriched by extremely fine Vairaoosi-style vertical zari lines that create a needle-fine striped rhythm across the Kathiri silk. Small gold and silver zari buttas are scattered through the field like tiny points of temple light, giving the dark body ornament without overwhelming its depth.

Border: The lower edge develops into a substantial classic-gold zari composition built through several horizontal registers. A broad solid zari band anchors the border, while the ornamental section above carries dense floral and leaf scrollwork framed by fine geometric Reku-style lines. The border has a Rettapet-style visual architecture, while the saree itself remains confirmed as Butta.

Mundhanai: The pallu becomes considerably more architectural and zari-rich. Dense classic-gold latticework is framed by long vertical ornamental panels carrying repeated lotus-like floral medallions, geometric bands and traditional leaf edging. Against the Kathiri purple, the warm gold has the character of carved temple bronze illuminated at dusk.

Styling: A tonal Kathiri blouse keeps the dark purple uninterrupted, while classic gold creates a stronger ceremonial treatment. Antique-gold jewellery will naturally connect to the broad border, while one restrained silver-toned accent can echo the smaller silver zari buttas. Finish with an aubergine or antique-gold clutch and keep additional colour deliberately limited.
