Kanakambaram Orange Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Kathiripoo Annam Border

Kanakambaram Orange Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Rettapet Saree with Kathiripoo Annam Border

For Navratri golu visits and festive gatherings, this handwoven pure silk Kanchipuram saree brings together glowing Kanakambaram orange, deep Kathiripoo purple and a fine Maragatham green accent in a combination that feels unmistakably temple-inspired. The body recalls flame-orange kanakambaram petals, while the contrast border deepens into a twilight purple, with the fresh green line flashing between them like a jewel-bright leaf beside temple flowers.

This is a confirmed Rettapet composition. The orange silk body is kept open and luminous with neat chakra-pushpam style gold zari buttas, placed with plenty of breathing space so the colour remains the hero. Their measured spacing allows the natural lustre of the pure mulberry silk to stay visible rather than crowding the field with ornament.

Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this level of handloom work represents approximately 19 or more active days on the loom, with the exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The contrast Kathiripoo pettu is the defining statement. A broad classic-gold zari band carries repeating Annam-style birds among curling poo-kodi florals, creating the richly articulated look associated with old-Kanchi weaving. Above it sits a crisp row of leaf-like reku detailing, while the slim Maragatham green line gives the border a sharp, jewel-like finish against the orange and purple silk.

Pallu: The pallu continues in saturated purple, punctuated with the same circular zari buttas and framed by an elaborate vertical zari register. The balance remains quintessentially Kanchipuram, with a glowing warm body, deep contrast field and controlled gold zari rather than an uninterrupted spread of metal.

Styling: Pair it with a purple blouse to continue the contrast, or keep the blouse in body colour if you want the Rettapet border to lead the look. Temple jewellery, a clean bun and a neatly opened pallu will suit the graphic colour contrast beautifully. Let the Annam border remain visible for the strongest textile-led styling.

Its vivid orange, purple and gold palette makes it especially suited to Navratri Golu, Vijayadashami gatherings, Diwali celebrations, temple programmes, classical performances, weddings and milestone family occasions.
