Ivory, Arakku and gold come together here in a colour combination deeply rooted in vintage Kanchipuram. The luminous ivory body is kept beautifully open, interrupted only by petite handwoven maanga buttas, before the saree moves into a richly articulated Arakku-red Varisaipet border.

The Weave: Varisaipet derives its character from a sequence of woven border registers rather than one dominant ornamental strip. Here, the restraint of the ivory body makes the progression of Arakku silk and gold zari particularly striking. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. Body: Luminous Venpattu ivory Pure Silk with individually spaced gold-zari maanga buttas. Their scale keeps the body calm and allows the traditional colour relationship to remain central.

Border: Deep Arakku red develops through multiple closely worked gold-zari registers, giving the saree the layered cadence associated with Varisaipet.

Pallu: The Arakku pallu is considerably more ornate, opening into a glowing field of closely woven gold zari with fine linear registers and richly worked ornamental panels.

Styling: Keep the Arakku running blouse for the most traditional treatment. Antique temple gold, Kemp jewellery or a restrained strand of jasmine will preserve the old-Kanchi character.
