Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Saree with Vairaoosi Peacock Motifs and Green Selvedge

Ivory Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Saree with Vairaoosi Peacock Motifs and Green Selvedge

Draped for an Indian consulate Independence Day reception on August 15th, this exceptionally elegant luminous ivory pure silk Kanchipuram saree is handwoven in the traditional Vairaoosi style. Fine needle-like zari lines are woven continuously across the body, creating a delicate all-over shimmer. Each saree takes 45 days from dyeing to weaving and cannot be replicated by machine. Woven by our partner weaver families in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Handwoven to order, not mass-produced. Every saree is made to order. 45 days pass between dyeing the silk and the finished weave, roughly 20 of it spent on the loom.

The Vairaoosi body is woven in a luminous ivory pure mulberry silk, its finely woven lines creating a beautifully subtle texture. Traditional Mayil (peacock) and Chakram motifs are handwoven in gold zari, adding just the right amount of richness to the understated ivory field.

The border is beautifully detailed in gold zari with prominent peacock motifs, finished with a fine deep green selvedge — a small contrast that gives the entire saree its distinctive finish, carried through into the pallu.

Keep the neckline high and the blouse in the same luminous ivory, reducing necklace weight so the fine gold zari border and green selvedge stay the focal points. Antique-gold jhumkas alone, hair in a soft low bun, let the quiet ivory-and-gold palette speak for itself.
