Woven in the Butta tradition, A luminous warm-ivory silk field is scattered with delicate circular meenakari buttas, their tiny accents shifting between turmeric gold, rust and fresh green. The two-colour centres and alternating silk-thread accents lend gentle colour to the otherwise quiet expanse. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 14 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: A deep arakku-red and vermilion border is richly layered with thanga-gold zari, dark olive-green manthulir-inspired selvedge accents, minute floral bands and broad traditional figurative registers. The red glows like lacquer beside the soft ivory body.
Pallu: The grand arakku-red pallu unfolds in an exceptionally intricate ornamental arrangement: long vertical zari registers, dense floral and geometric tracery, honeycomb-like gold panels and richly figured woven sections, framed by red and gold bands.
Styling: Let the pallu remain open over the shoulder with an antique-gold tissue blouse or a deep arakku silk blouse with a close neckline and elbow sleeves. Choose temple-jewellery earrings, a single broad kada and fresh jasmine; keep the pleats neat so the layered border reads clearly.
