Ivory and Deep Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Saree with Kai Korvai Maanga Butta and Varisaipet Border
Ivory and Deep Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Saree with Kai Korvai Maanga Butta and Varisaipet Border
At the Detroit Diaspora Gala, where the finest handloom traditions are worn as declarations of identity, this ivory KanchiPattu saree arrives carrying the Maanga butta — the mango motif of auspicious South Indian tradition — in the silk-only language of pure craft — a saree that embodies the art of Korvai Kanchipuram weaving. Maanga buttas are woven across the ivory silk body in coloured silk thread, each one a devotional mango motif rendered without a thread of zari.
The body is woven in a warm ivory — that natural, creamy white tone of pure mulberry silk at its most unadorned — in smooth plain-weave pure mulberry silk. Maanga butta motifs — the stylised mango, one of the oldest motifs in South Indian textile tradition — are placed at measured intervals across the field in the Pattupet tradition, where coloured silk threads create patterned rhythm and visual depth without the use of zari. Each butta glows against the pale ivory ground in warm, devotional colour.
The border is woven in a deep maroon ground with coloured silk thread bands in the Kai Korvai tradition — body and border woven separately and structurally interlocked on the loom — with a Varisaipet structure of repeated woven lines carrying traditional multi-band authority. The deep maroon pallu continues with the full silk thread array cascading across its width in a finish of quiet ceremonial power. Explore our full range of handwoven Korvai Kanchipuram silk sarees — each one body and border structurally interlocked on the loom by master weavers in Tamil Nadu.
