Irattai-Niram Petal Pink & Arakku Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Maanga Zari
Irattai-Niram Petal Pink & Arakku Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Maanga Zari
An eternal irattai-niram colour story gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree its remarkable character. Petal Pink melts into Deep Arakku as the silk moves, with a muted violet undertone surfacing through certain folds. At one angle it feels softly rosy; at another, the colour deepens into plum-leaning Arakku, making the saree beautifully difficult to reduce to a single shade.
❖ Nothing here comes off a shelf. 40 days of dyeing, threading, and weaving go into every saree, 16 of that on the loom.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with individually spaced thanga-zari motifs woven directly into the body during weaving. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 to 20 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: Petite thanga-zari Maanga Buttas are scattered across the body with generous breathing space between them. Their small mango-shaped forms introduce measured points of antique-gold light while allowing the irattai-niram silk to remain the focus. The warmth of the zari changes subtly against each shift in the body colour. The border moves into a softer Pink Pettu woven with traditional Kanchi brocade panels. Fine Seer lines structure the zari work, while a delicate Vanki-inspired finish creates a crisp ornamental edge. Against the deeper Arakku portions of the body, this luminous pink-and-gold border feels especially striking. The pallu opens into a completely different expression of the same colour story: luminous Petal Pink washed with fine self-zari and a subtle Kattam-like texture. Rather than becoming visually heavy, the woven gold creates a soft metallic haze across the silk. Petal Pink, Arakku, muted violet and thanga zari come together in a saree with quiet old-Kanchi richness and extraordinary movement in the light. Current Look
Keerthy Suresh’s recent burgundy-and-antique-gold TIFF look brings renewed attention to this deeply traditional colour family. This irattai-niram Kanchipuram takes the story in a softer direction, moving from Petal Pink into Deep Arakku and muted violet, illuminated with petite thanga-zari Maanga Buttas.
Styling: Use the luminous Petal Pink pallu tone for a softer blouse treatment, or choose Deep Arakku to draw out the darker side of the irattai-niram body. Antique temple gold works beautifully with the Maanga zari, while rubies, pink tourmalines or restrained amethyst accents can echo the saree’s shifting rose, Arakku and violet tones.
