Fresh Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Chedi Buttas and Mayil Zari Border

Fresh Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Chedi Buttas and Mayil Zari Border

Fresh green silk gives this Kanjipuram an immediate brightness, sharpened by a fine gold Zari Kattam grid and delicate Chedi buttas. The visual weight builds at the border, where Mayil motifs and stacked zari bands lead into an especially ornate peacock-rich pallu.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 16 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Zari Kattam tradition, fine gold lines create a luminous grid across the fresh green body, punctuated by Chedi buttas. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: The border is distinguished by handwoven Mayil motifs, floral foliage and stacked gold zari registers, creating a richly ornamented lower frame.

Pallu: Peacock motifs spread across the pallu within dense gold zari patterning and layered registers, making the shoulder drape one of the strongest visual features of the saree.

Styling: Pair the fresh green with deep green, antique gold or a contrast jewel-tone blouse. Traditional gold jewellery and a simple bun keep the drape focused on the peacock border and richly woven pallu. A clean front pleat arrangement will show the Zari Kattam body clearly.

Suitable for Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, weddings, temple gatherings, cultural celebrations and special family occasions.

Frequently bought together

What is Zari Kattam on this green Kanchipuram saree?
Fine gold zari lines cross the fresh green silk to form a luminous grid across the body.
What are the small body motifs?
The body carries Chedi buttas, placed between the zari lines to add traditional woven detail without covering the green field.
What makes the pallu especially distinctive?
The pallu carries repeating peacock motifs surrounded by dense stacked zari work, making it considerably more ornate than the body.
What should I look for when viewing this saree?
Notice the change from the fine body grid to the heavier Mayil border, then the much denser peacock work across the pallu. This progression is a major part of the saree's visual character.
What jewellery works well with the green and gold combination?
Traditional gold jewellery works naturally with the warm zari. A simpler blouse and jewellery arrangement will keep the detailed border and peacock pallu prominent.
