This Kanchipuram saree is woven in a classic Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with deep maragatham-inspired emerald green with small, widely spaced gold-coloured floral-geometric buttas. The isolated woven buttas sit apart rather than forming an all-over zari field. The photographs do not establish a particular warp-weft ply count, korvai interlock, zari composition or other specialist loom construction. Handwoven for Idam Living by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. A saree of this type represents approximately 21 active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: Vadamalli magenta-purple contrast border with parallel fine gold zari lines and an ornate scrolling floral zari band.
Pallu: Magenta-purple pallu with fine longitudinal zari stripes visible in the second photograph. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: A magenta silk blouse, antique-finish gold jhumkas and a low bun with jasmine will echo the vivid border. Let the magenta pallu fall openly across the shoulder to show the delicate zari striping.
