Earthy Rose Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Annam Zari Border

Earthy Rose Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Annam Zari Border

A beautifully saturated Earthy Rose gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree its quiet richness. The silk moves through dusty rose, warm terracotta and softly muted clay undertones as it catches the light. Fine vertical antique-gold zari lines travel through the body, while petite floral buttas create small points of ornament across the silk.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree took 40 days — dyeing, threading, and roughly 16 on the loom — to complete.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with fine vertical zari lines and an Annam zari border in warm antique gold. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The closely ordered zari lines give the body a gentle metallic rhythm without overpowering its colour depth; against the earthy rose ground, the antique-gold threads appear softly burnished rather than bright, creating an elegant old-world character. The broad border is distinguished by repeating Annam motifs — stylized sacred birds unfold in a continuous procession, with graceful curved necks, sculpted wings and ornamental plumage articulated in warm antique-gold zari, framed by fine vegetal details and layered geometric bands with a delicate temple-edge finish. The pallu becomes considerably richer, opening into an expansive antique-gold zari field with dense geometric patterning. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Current Look

Keerthy Suresh’s recent burgundy-and-antique-gold saree look brings renewed attention to this deeply traditional colour story. This Earthy Rose Kanchipuram explores a related palette through its own handwoven vocabulary — antique-gold Annam panels along the border, followed by a richly worked Mayil, Kodi and paisley pallu.

Styling: Keep the blouse in matching Earthy Rose for a sophisticated uninterrupted colour story, or use antique gold to bring greater emphasis to the Annam border. Temple jewellery, antique gold, rubies or restrained emerald accents would all complement the saree’s deep ceremonial palette beautifully.
