Dusty Mauve Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Elephant Medallion Border
Dusty Mauve Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Elephant Medallion Border
Veena or violin recital by a young Indian American artist calls for a saree with understated elegance. Fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid — the defining structure of the Zari Kattam weave — scattered with delicate zari buttas that catch the light with every fold. Each saree takes 42 days from dyeing to finishing and cannot be replicated by machine. Each saree comes from the weaver families of Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district. Read our story.
The body is woven in a dusty mauve, in pure mulberry silk, with a shimmering gold zari checkered grid characteristic of the Zari Kattam weave, enhanced with delicate zari buttas for a refined balance of texture and brilliance. This is a signature pure silk Kanchipuram weave, prized for its structured shimmer.
The deep forest green contrast border is adorned with traditional elephant medallions, temple-inspired zari bands, and finely woven ornamental motifs, echoing the grandeur of a South Indian temple gopuram. The grand coordinating pallu reflects classic Kanchipuram craftsmanship, continuing the same border motifs in a fuller sweep.
This saree is well-suited to weddings, temple visits, and festive celebrations. Pair with a forest green or gold silk blouse, a delicate gold choker, and jhumka earrings for a refined, festive finish.
