Deep Violet Gandaberunda Zari Kattam Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree
Deep Violet Gandaberunda Zari Kattam Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree
A colour with extraordinary depth, this Kanchipuram sits between deep violet and electric blue. The violet remains dominant, while a vivid blue undertone emerges as the silk catches the light, giving the saree a jewel-like radiance that changes subtly with movement.
❖ Handwoven to order over 42 days — dyeing through to the final weave, no two pieces identical.

This is a confirmed Zari Kattam composition in pure mulberry silk, with fine zari threads intersecting across the body to create its measured grid. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 6 to 10 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The body is constructed in a beautifully measured Zari Kattam. Fine antique gold zari lines intersect across the silk to create an elegant grid, giving the surface both rhythm and architectural precision. Within the checks are striking handwoven Gandaberunda zari motifs, interspersed with detailed circular medallions. The border is substantial without overwhelming the body. A broad antique gold zari field is woven with minute geometric texture and finished with finely articulated ornamental edging. Above it, an elaborate figurative zari register creates a beautiful transition from the disciplined kattam body into the richness of the border. The pallu is exceptionally detailed. A dense geometric zari field forms its centre, framed by broad ornamental panels filled with scrolling floral forms and traditional woven detailing, giving it a grand, almost architectural finish. Explore the Zari Kattam collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Keep the blouse in the same deep violet family to allow the unusual blue undertone to remain the focus. For a more dramatic treatment, repeat a single Gandaberunda motif as restrained antique gold embroidery on the blouse sleeve or back. Temple gold jewellery, sculptural jhumkas and a deep berry lip would complement the intensity of the silk beautifully.
