Deep Violet and Magenta Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Border
Deep Violet and Magenta Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Varisaipet Border
A Tamil family in Princeton, New Jersey, is attending a Brahmotsavam at the local temple, and the women of the family are dressing for the evening procession.
This Kanjivaram pure silk saree presents itself in deep violet — a colour that carries both the stillness of the night sky and the richness of a temple sanctum — woven in the Lightweight Silk tradition with finer 2-ply and 3-ply mulberry silk yarns. Fine horizontal lines run across the body creating a subtle woven texture, and small diamond-shaped Butta in self-tone gold appear at intervals, visible only in direct light.
The border runs in vibrant magenta with a Varisaipet structure — the traditional multi-band border of repeated woven lines — carrying fine gold zari chevron bands in a continuous diagonal repeat across the full border width. The pallu continues the magenta with the same zari chevron rhythm, giving the saree a clean, graphic border finish that creates striking contrast against the deep violet body — a combination that reads with particular clarity in the evening light of a temple procession.
