Deep Royal Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Yaanai Zari Border

Deep Royal Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Yaanai Zari Border

A saturated Deep Royal Violet gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree its jewel-toned depth. Across the body, extremely fine thanga-zari lines form a precise Kattam lattice, creating a quiet metallic shimmer while allowing the violet silk to remain rich and uninterrupted.

❖ Every saree is made to order. 42 days pass between dyeing the silk and the finished weave, roughly 16 of it spent on the loom.

This is a confirmed Zari Kattam composition in pure mulberry silk, with fine intersecting thanga-zari lines forming the body’s checked grid, with petite Maanga-style zari buttas spaced lightly across the checked field. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: Petite Maanga-style zari buttas punctuate the checked field at measured intervals. Their small paisley forms sit lightly against the geometric Kattam, adding traditional ornament without making the body feel dense. The combination of Royal Violet and fine gold has a particularly luminous old-Kanchi character. The contrast Pettu shifts into a rich Maroon-Brown, finished with a narrow Pachai green selvedge. Through the principal border register runs a continuous Yaanai procession in glowing thanga zari, surrounded by curling Kodi-Valli ornament. Fine Seer bands, geometric zari lines and a crisp Vanki edge give the border a disciplined temple-silk rhythm. The pallu becomes substantially richer, opening into a dense diamond-Kattam floral zari Jaal over the Maroon-Brown silk. Minute floral forms repeat through the geometric field, while elongated temple-point detailing creates a strong vertical finish along the side. Royal Violet, Maroon-Brown, Pachai and thanga gold come together in a deeply traditional Kanchipuram palette with striking ceremonial presence. Explore the Zari Kattam collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Pair it with the Maroon-Brown running blouse to draw the contrast Pettu into the look, or use Royal Violet for a more continuous body-colour treatment. Antique temple gold is the natural jewellery pairing, while emeralds or Kemp stones can quietly echo the narrow Pachai selvedge.
