Deep Royal Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Petal Pink Triple Seer Border

Deep Royal Violet Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Petal Pink Triple Seer Border

A saturated Deep Royal Violet gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree its striking clarity. The colour carries a vivid blue-purple depth through the folds, remaining rich and jewel-toned without becoming overly dark. Petite thanga-zari buttas are scattered across the open body, their compact floral-paisley forms creating small points of warm gold against the violet silk.

❖ From raw silk to finished saree: 40 days, including about 16 of hand-weaving on the loom.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with petite stylized zari motifs set individually across an open field rather than woven as a continuous pattern. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 to 20 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The contrast arrives quietly through a Soft Petal Pink Pettu. Rather than relying on a broad ornamental zari border, this saree uses restraint: three slender gold Seer lines run across the pink edge, creating a precise linear finish that feels unmistakably traditional while allowing the two colours to remain the focus. That minimal border gives the saree a particularly elegant old-Kanchi character. The deeply saturated violet and delicate pink sit in strong but harmonious contrast, while the fine thanga-zari lines provide just enough metallic definition. The result is cleaner and lighter in expression than a heavily brocaded Kanchipuram, but no less distinctive. The pallu opens into luminous Petal Pink, softly washed with self-zari and a fine geometric grain. The woven texture catches the light as a gentle metallic haze rather than a dense gold field, completing the saree with quiet richness. Deep Royal Violet, Petal Pink and fine thanga zari come together in a beautifully restrained colour story with a subtle irattai-niram sensibility. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Current Look

Recent purple-silk saree dressing has brought this saturated colour family back into focus. Sonalika Joshi’s recent New York look paired rich purple silk with delicate gold detailing; this Kanchipuram takes the story in its own direction through a Deep Royal Violet body, petite thanga-zari buttas and a softly contrasting Petal Pink Pettu.

Styling: Pair it with the Petal Pink running blouse to emphasize the contrast Pettu and give the saree a beautifully balanced two-colour finish. A Deep Royal Violet blouse creates a more uninterrupted look. Antique gold, pearls, pink stones or restrained amethyst accents would all complement the violet-and-pink palette without overwhelming its minimal character.
