Deep Purple Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Saree with Full Body Varisaipet in Gold Zari

At a Chithirai festival procession through the streets of Madurai, when devotees line the route and silk becomes part of the ceremony itself, the saree that carries its colour with total authority is the one that belongs to that moment. This Kanjeevaram saree from Idam Living, woven by the weaver families of Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, is woven for exactly that kind of occasion — a deep purple silk in which the Varisaipet is not confined to the border but runs across the entire fabric.

The body is deep purple silk, and across its full expanse the Varisaipet weave is laid in gold zari — traditional multi-band border structure with repeated woven lines, here extended across the full body length rather than reserved for the border alone. Horizontal bands of gold zari run continuously from end to end: chevron bands, geometric diamond bands, and fine floral repeat bands alternating in a structured sequence that gives the fabric a density and richness unlike any plain-bodied silk. The gold zari and deep purple together create a combination of exceptional ceremonial depth.

The pallu continues and amplifies the same Varisaipet structure, the gold zari bands broadening and intensifying toward the hem, the full-body Varisaipet completing itself in the most concentrated form at the pallu's edge.
