Body, Border and Pallu: In Kai Korvai, the contrasting body and border are not simply treated as one continuous colour field; the weaver works the differently coloured sections with separate yarn systems and manually interlocks them at their meeting point as the saree progresses on the loom, creating the characteristic strength and sharply defined contrast for which Korvai Kanchipurams are prized. The Deep Purple body is scattered with beautifully handwoven gold zari buttas in alternating traditional forms, their measured placement leaving generous areas of uninterrupted silk. The Forest Green border is considerably richer, with broad bands of 3 gram pure gold zari framed by intricate ornamental registers and large botanical forms woven repeatedly across the lower edge.
