Deep Midnight Black Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Varisaipet Elephant-Deer Border

Deep Midnight Black Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Saree with Varisaipet Elephant-Deer Border

Hosting a Satyanarayana Puja to bless a new home calls for a saree with quiet dignity, and this Deep Midnight Black Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu saree offers exactly that. A traditional multi-band border structure with repeated woven lines defines the Varisaipet weave framing this drape. Each saree takes 42 days from dyeing to weaving and cannot be replicated by machine. Our weaver families in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district bring this saree to life on the loom. Read our story.

❖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced.

42 days in the making. From dyed silk thread to finished weave, with about 16 days of that on the loom itself.

The body is woven in Mai Karuppu — a deep, ink-toned black — in pure mulberry silk, scattered with delicate gold zari buttas across the surface. Discover more Varisaipet Kanchipuram silks.

The striking magenta Varisaipet border is woven with traditional Yaanai (elephant) and Maan (deer) Vanasringaram motifs — figures long used in Kanchipuram weaving to evoke strength, grace and abundance — carrying through into the pallu.

Styling Tip

Fresh jasmine woven through a low bun brings warmth to this deep, graphic silk without competing with the Vanasringaram border. Keep jewellery to antique-gold studs and let the magenta border and the body's blackness do the contrast work; a self-colour black blouse keeps the look composed.

Blouse Piece Included: 0.8m self-colour black silk. Complimentary custom stitching through Aug 27 ($30 value) — see our Blouse Stitching Guide.
