Deep Indigo Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Vairaoosi Stripes and Grand Gold Zari Border
Deep Indigo Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Vairaoosi Stripes and Grand Gold Zari Border
A Republic Day celebration hosted by the Indian community — January 26th — calls for a saree of bold, dignified colour. Fine needle-like zari lines are woven continuously across the deep indigo pure mulberry silk body, creating a delicate all-over shimmer, with petite zari buttas adding understated detail. Each saree takes 45 days from dyeing to weaving and cannot be replicated by machine. Brought to life on the loom by artisan families in Kunnam village in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
The body is a rich deep indigo pure mulberry silk, densely woven in the traditional Vairaoosi style — fine gold zari lines run closely across the fabric for a refined striped texture, with petite zari buttas adding understated detail. This is a signature Kanchipuram pure silk Kanchipuram construction, prized for its refined striped weave.
The saree is finished with a broad antique-gold zari border featuring temple-inspired triangular edging and intricately woven leaf bands. The luminous gold zari contrasts beautifully against the dark silk, giving the saree a bold yet timeless presence. The pallu continues the same rich zari work in a fuller sweep.
An elegant choice for weddings, temple celebrations, festive gatherings, and classical occasions. Pair with a deep indigo or antique gold silk blouse and statement gold jewellery — a temple necklace and jhumkas — for a bold, timeless finish.
