Deep Green Rettapet Pure Silk Kancheepuram Saree with Royal Purple Border
Deep Green Rettapet Pure Silk Kancheepuram Saree with Royal Purple Border
Deep green silk unfolds like a temple grove at dusk, its royal purple borders holding the last light of the sun. Made for the Margazhi season, when temples fill before dawn with bhajans and the cold morning asks for a silk that glows on its own.
❖ Woven in Kanchipuram over 18 days on the loom, using Silk Mark certified pure silk, by artisans who have handed this craft down through generations.

This Kancheepuram saree carries a traditional Rettapet construction in pure mulberry silk, with two parallel woven bands creating a layered architectural frame around the silk body. Rettapet is the traditional Kanchipuram double-border arrangement: a narrow inner band and a broader ornamental band sit in a precise relationship to each other, giving the structured edge that defines the weave and sets it apart from a single broad zari border or a Korvai interlock. The deep green body, rich as a tamarind leaf in shade, is woven with delicate, scattered miniature gold zari buttas in small floral-geometric forms, placed with generous spacing so the uninterrupted green silk stays the focus; the lustrous finish shifts subtly between bottle green and a deeper forest tone in the light. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this type represents approximately 18 active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: The border arrives in a contrasting royal purple silk, worked with warm gold zari against the deep green body. Two separate zari-rich bands are arranged across the purple ground: fine geometric zari lines, chevron-like details and small temple-inspired triangular edging define the inner band, while the broader ornamental band displays densely arranged floral and bird-inspired motifs.
Pallu: The royal purple pallu, matching the border, features long, vertically arranged gold zari panels holding narrow floral-geometric strips, stylised paisley or leaf forms, and finely repeated linear patterns. The vertical arrangement gives the pallu a measured character rather than a fully covered brocade appearance, and its purple reads as a deliberate frame to the green body. Explore the Rettapet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Let the green and purple contrast do the work: a royal purple blouse with elbow sleeves and slim gold piping picks up the border, while a deep green blouse keeps the body colour continuous and lets the purple pallu stand alone. Uncut diamond studs, a single antique-gold kada, the vertical zari pallu left in free fall, and a low braid finish the look.
