Deep Garnet Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Vairaoosi Saree with Gold Zari Buttas and Traditional Medallion Border

Deep Garnet Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Vairaoosi Saree with Gold Zari Buttas and Traditional Medallion Border

Deep Garnet Maroon gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu saree a beautifully stately presence. The colour sits between dark ruby, garnet and traditional maroon, becoming warmer as the silk catches the light and considerably deeper through the folds. Across the body, incredibly fine Vairaoosi lines create an almost pinstriped woven surface beneath small gold zari buttas placed at measured intervals.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree took 45 days — dyeing, threading, and roughly 20 days on the loom — to complete.

This is a confirmed Vairaoosi composition in pure mulberry silk: exceptionally fine, closely spaced linear weaving creates a delicate pinstripe-like texture across the silk. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 to 20 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The beauty of Vairaoosi lies in how quietly the structure reveals itself. From a distance the body appears almost uninterrupted, but closer inspection shows hundreds of fine parallel lines travelling through the silk and giving the maroon extraordinary depth. The border introduces a much richer traditional vocabulary, with broad gold zari medallion-style ornament framed by fine floral, geometric and linear registers. The pallu becomes considerably more elaborate, opening into a dense field of minute geometric gold zari forms arranged across the Deep Garnet Maroon ground. Rich ornamental side bands and traditional zari detailing frame this expansive woven field, creating a dramatic change in scale when the pallu is brought over the shoulder. Explore the Vairaoosi collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Keep the palette deep and deliberate. A matching Garnet Maroon blouse creates an elegant tonal finish, while dark bronze, muted Forest Green or antique gold can introduce restrained contrast. Choose antique-gold jewellery or one substantial temple-inspired piece rather than several bright stones. Finish with a centre-parted low bun and jasmine or a polished traditional braid.
