Deep Espresso Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Zari Kattam and Burgundy Gold Zari Border

Deep Espresso Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Saree with Zari Kattam and Burgundy Gold Zari Border

Chosen for a Diwali dinner party with friends and family, this handwoven pure silk Kanjivaram saree brings together deep espresso brown, burgundy red and antique gold. In the Zari Kattam style, fine zari threads intersect to form a luminous grid. The saree spends approximately 6 to 10 days on the loom and cannot be replicated by machine. Every thread passes through the hands of artisan families across Kanchipuram district. Read our story.

The pure mulberry silk body is woven in an exceptionally deep espresso brown with aubergine undertones, appearing almost black in lower light. Fine antique-gold zari lines cross the dark silk to form the characteristic Zari Kattam grid. Small stylised zari buttas are spaced across the checks, allowing both the precise line work and the unusual depth of colour to remain visible. Explore our Zari Kattam Kanchipuram sarees.

The broad burgundy-red border introduces a warm tonal contrast without breaking the saree's dark, dramatic colour story. Antique-gold zari bands frame larger ornamental medallions with stylised bird and floral forms. The burgundy pallu is densely woven with a geometric diamond field and long vertical zari registers, creating a considerably richer finish against the measured checks of the body.

Choose a sharply cut self-colour blouse with a sculptural neckline, letting the blouse shape provide the contemporary element. Keep the jewellery warm and controlled with antique-gold earrings and a single cuff instead of a full necklace. A clean low bun and open pallu will preserve the saree's dark, architectural effect.

Current Look: Shilpa Shetty's current chocolate-brown saree styling has renewed attention around deep brown drapes paired with sculptural blouses. This saree connects through its near-black espresso colour story, while its handwoven Zari Kattam grid, gold buttas, burgundy border and densely worked pallu remain distinctly its own.
