Deep Emerald Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Korvai Saree with Arakku Red Mayil & Chakram Zari Border
Deep Emerald Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Korvai Saree with Arakku Red Mayil & Chakram Zari Border
A saturated Deep Emerald Green gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree its unmistakably traditional richness. The body remains beautifully open, scattered with alternating Mayil and floral thanga-zari buttas that sit lightly against the green silk, allowing the colour itself to retain its depth and brilliance.
❖ This saree took 45 days to make — the silk is dyed, threaded, and hand-woven over roughly 20 on the loom.

This is a confirmed Korvai composition in pure mulberry silk, with the traditional Korvai technique allowing the deeply contrasting Deep Emerald Green body and Arakku Red border to meet with strong visual definition. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The Korvai contrast is emphatic: vivid Arakku Red forms the Pettu against the Emerald Green body, creating one of Kanchipuram's most enduring ceremonial colour stories. A crisp Vanki-inspired temple edge marks the transition, followed by multiple Seer bands and fine geometric zari lines that build the border in successive traditional registers. At the heart of the border runs a prominent figurative zari band, where stylized Mayil motifs alternate rhythmically with circular Chakram medallions — the repeated peacock-and-disc cadence gives the Arakku Pettu a stately old-Kanchi character, while narrower gold registers above and below bring structure and precision to the broader composition. The pallu becomes considerably more intricate, opening into an Arakku Red field covered with a diamond Kattam zari pattern, with tiny floral forms appearing within the individual compartments, surrounded by dense ornamental gold work that gives the pallu a rich temple-silk finish. Explore the Korvai collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Use the Arakku Red blouse to continue the traditional Korvai contrast, or choose Emerald Green for a more uninterrupted body-colour treatment. Antique temple gold is the natural jewellery pairing; rubies and emeralds would reinforce the saree's classic green-red ceremonial palette beautifully.
Current Look
Rani Mukerji's recent green-and-gold saree look brought this deeply traditional festive palette back into focus. This Kanchipuram takes the colour story into classic Korvai territory, pairing saturated Emerald Green with an Arakku Red Pettu, thanga-zari Mayil and Chakram motifs, and a richly worked diamond Kattam pallu.
