Deep Emerald Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Zari Paisley Buttas and Intricate Mayil Border
Deep Emerald Green Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Zari Paisley Buttas and Intricate Mayil Border
There is a certain magnificence to a Kanchipuram woven entirely around one deep colour. This silk settles into an intense Emerald Green, dark and saturated enough to feel regal, yet alive with the unmistakable lustre of pure mulberry silk.
❖ 40 days in the making. From dyed silk thread to finished weave, with about 16 of that on the loom itself.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with individual gold zari motifs woven directly into the body at measured intervals rather than as a continuous all-over pattern. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 8 to 10 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: Across the body, small gold zari buttas appear with measured restraint, while closer to the border the scale changes dramatically as large handwoven zari paisley buttas rise from the green silk, their elongated curves and intricate internal detailing giving the saree a distinctive handcrafted character. The border is equally remarkable, with a succession of Mayil motifs woven in luminous gold zari, each peacock framed within its own architectural panel and surrounded by fine geometric registers. The pallu takes the zari work further still, with gold spread across the deep green ground in a dense repeating field of circular and geometric forms framed by narrower ornamental registers and a finely articulated side panel. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: This saree does not need another strong colour to create impact, so pair it with a deep emerald or forest-green silk blouse for a tonal look, or an antique-gold blouse for more ceremony — a dark maroon or deep raspberry blouse works beautifully too for weddings and festive evenings. Temple jewellery suits the scale of the Mayil border well: a substantial antique-gold haram, sculptural jhumkas or a traditional vanki. For hair, try a centre-parted low bun with jasmine for temple and wedding dressing, or a sleek low bun without flowers for an evening look.
