Deep Emerald Green Gandaberunda Zari Kattam Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree

Deep Emerald Green Gandaberunda Zari Kattam Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree

There is something especially commanding about deep emerald green when it is paired only with gold. This Kanchipuram silk has that unmistakable jewel-like depth, with a saturated green body illuminated by antique gold zari.

❖ This saree took 42 days to make — the silk is dyed, threaded, and hand-woven over roughly 38 on the loom.

This is a confirmed Zari Kattam composition in pure mulberry silk, with fine zari threads intersecting across the body to create its measured grid. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 6 to 10 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The body is constructed in an intricate Zari Kattam, where fine zari lines intersect to create a beautifully measured grid. Within this disciplined geometry appear handwoven Gandaberunda motifs, each worked individually in zari. The broad border is almost architectural in its precision. Dense gold zari is arranged through minute geometric textures and ornamental registers, creating a rich frame without interrupting the clarity of the green body. The pallu becomes the dramatic finale. An expansive field of antique gold zari is built through closely repeated geometric forms and intricately woven bands, giving it an almost embossed appearance against the monochromatic emerald ground. Explore the Zari Kattam collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Let the emerald and gold remain the focus. Style it with a beautifully fitted deep green blouse or a muted antique-gold blouse, traditional temple jewellery and a clean low bun. For a more contemporary evening look, keep the blouse almost unembellished and allow the Gandaberunda motifs and luminous pallu to provide all the ornamentation.
