Deep Coffee Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Zari Kattam Saree with Arakku Red Mayil Zari Border

Deep Coffee Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Zari Kattam Saree with Arakku Red Mayil Zari Border

Deep Coffee Brown forms the elegant foundation of this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu saree. Fine gold zari lines travel vertically and horizontally across the body to create the delicate Zari Kattam, while petite gold buttas sit within the checked framework like tiny points of light. The combination feels precise and restrained, allowing the extraordinary depth of the brown silk to remain visible.

❖ Handwoven, start to finish. 42 days — dyeing the thread, setting up the loom, and weaving the final piece.

This is a confirmed Zari Kattam composition in pure mulberry silk, with fine zari threads intersecting across the body to create its measured grid. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 6 to 10 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The transition into Arakku Red changes the mood completely. Against the dark Kattam body, the border becomes richer and more ceremonial, with multiple gold zari registers layered across the red silk. The contrast between restrained geometry above and elaborate ornament below is one of the saree's most striking features. Mayil motifs command the broad border. A procession of intricately woven peacocks runs through the central gold zari register, framed by slender floral and geometric bands, a luminous lattice-like zari section and another richly woven Mayil register near the lower edge. The repeated peacock ornament gives the border both rhythm and grandeur without losing the disciplined structure of the traditional Kanchipuram composition. The Arakku Red pallu is exceptionally detailed, built from multiple vertical zari registers surrounding a densely woven central field. Fine ornamental bands, floral patterning and closely worked gold zari create a richly finished ceremonial end to the saree. Explore the Zari Kattam collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Pair it with an Arakku Red blouse for continuity or Deep Coffee Brown for a quieter interpretation, finished with antique-gold jewellery and a polished centre-parted low bun.
