Deep Coffee Brown Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Zari Kattam Saree with Arakku Red Gandaberunda Border
Deep Coffee Brown Handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu Zari Kattam Saree with Arakku Red Gandaberunda Border
Deep Coffee Brown gives this handwoven Pure Silk KanchiPattu saree an unusually sophisticated depth. Across the silk, exceptionally fine gold zari lines intersect to form the Zari Kattam, creating a delicate metallic grid that seems to float over the brown ground. Petite gold buttas are positioned within this precise structure, adding measured points of ornament without disturbing the quiet geometry of the body.
❖ Handwoven to order over 42 days — dyeing through to the final weave, no two pieces identical.

This is a confirmed Zari Kattam composition in pure mulberry silk, with fine zari threads intersecting across the body to create its measured grid. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 6 to 10 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The saree changes dramatically as it reaches the Arakku Red border. Here the restrained Kattam gives way to a far more expressive field of traditional zari. Warm red silk becomes the setting for broad gold registers, closely woven floral details and the commanding Gandaberunda, whose strongly articulated form immediately becomes the visual centre of the border. The Gandaberunda motifs are woven on an impressive scale, surrounded by curling floral forms and fine ornamental framing. Repeated across the broad border, they create a stately rhythm of gold against Arakku Red. Smaller zari registers above and below the principal band add depth and definition, allowing the large motifs to remain richly detailed without making the composition feel visually unstructured. The pallu carries the workmanship even further. Arakku Red silk is covered by an extensive gold zari field with finely repeated geometric patterning, while larger ornamental woven forms appear along its side registers. The density and precision of this section give the pallu a distinctly ceremonial finish. Explore the Zari Kattam collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Style it with an Arakku Red blouse for continuity or a Deep Coffee Brown blouse for a quieter interpretation, finished with antique-gold jewellery and a polished low bun.
