Deep Burgundy Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Rettapet Saree with Forest Green Border and Gold Zari Buttas
Deep Burgundy Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Rettapet Saree with Forest Green Border and Gold Zari Buttas
Deep Burgundy Red gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram saree a beautifully grounded presence. The colour sits between garnet, old maroon silk and a softened ceremonial red, becoming warmer where the silk catches the light and considerably deeper through the folds. Small gold zari buttas are placed sparingly across the body, leaving generous areas of uninterrupted silk around them.
❖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced — approximately 7 to 11 active days on the loom, reflecting weaving time only and excluding silk preparation, dyeing, warping, loom setup and finishing.

This is a confirmed Rettapet composition in pure mulberry silk, its distinctive gap border leaving visible breathing room of plain silk between richly woven antique-gold zari bands. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 7 to 11 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The border brings Forest Green into the composition through measured contrast bands framed by numerous fine gold zari registers. Rather than relying on one heavy ornamental band, the Rettapet treatment builds its richness through repetition: delicate lines, small geometric details, wavy woven passages and open stretches of burgundy silk. The pallu continues the Deep Burgundy Red and becomes distinctly more elaborate, with long vertical zari bands arranged in alternating widths and patterns. Fine zigzag passages and richer ornamental registers create a wonderfully rhythmic surface while areas of plain silk keep the composition from becoming visually heavy. Explore the Rettapet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: A plain Forest Green blouse brings out the border beautifully, while Deep Burgundy keeps the look tonal and understated. Antique-gold jewellery suits the softened palette particularly well. Choose one traditional necklace or substantial earrings rather than introducing brighter stones, and finish with a centre-parted low bun or traditional braid with restrained jasmine.
