Deep Burgundy-Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Magenta Pink Zari Jaal Border

Deep Burgundy-Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Magenta Pink Zari Jaal Border

A deep Burgundy-Maroon gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree extraordinary jewel-toned depth. Plum and aubergine undertones appear through the folds, allowing the colour to move from saturated maroon into a deeper shadowed burgundy as the silk catches the light. Petite circular Poo Buttas and compact floral zari motifs are scattered lightly across the body.

❖ Handwoven to order. 40 days, start to finish — from dyeing the silk thread to the final weave on the loom.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with petite individually placed Poo Buttas set across an otherwise open silk field. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The contrast shifts into a muted Magenta-Pink Pettu, bringing warmth and luminosity against the darker body. Soft thanga zari glows across the pink silk without losing the richness of the colour beneath it, creating a particularly elegant maroon-pink-gold combination. The broad border is densely woven in a geometric Kattam-and-floral zari Jaal. Repeating floral-square registers move through the composition alongside fine geometric lines, while narrow Seer bands frame the heavier zari field and give the border a disciplined old-Kanchi rhythm. The pallu develops the same Magenta-Pink and antique-gold vocabulary into a richer woven field. Fine all-over zari texture is joined by ornamental registers and large tonal Maanga-inspired forms, creating depth without losing the softness of the pink ground. The meeting of Burgundy-Maroon, muted Magenta and warm gold gives the saree an unmistakably heirloom, jewel-toned presence. Current Look

Keerthy Suresh’s recent TIFF burgundy-and-antique-gold look has brought renewed attention to this deeply traditional colour story. This Kanchipuram interprets the palette through a Deep Burgundy-Maroon body, muted Magenta-Pink Pettu, softly glowing thanga zari and a richly worked geometric floral border.

Styling: Pair it with the Magenta-Pink running blouse to bring the contrast Pettu forward, or choose Deep Burgundy-Maroon for a richer monochromatic treatment. Antique temple gold is the natural jewellery pairing, while rubies, garnets or restrained emerald accents can add depth to the burgundy-and-gold palette.
