Deep Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Pavun Buttas and Maroon Border

Deep Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Butta Saree with Pavun Buttas and Maroon Border

A beautifully ordered Kanjivaram built around one of the most recognisable small Kanchi details: the Pavun butta. The deep brown silk keeps the body composed, while the repeated coin-like zari motifs and maroon-toned border give it a classic ceremonial presence.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 14 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

This Butta saree is defined by individually placed Pavun motifs, arranged with deliberate spacing across the silk rather than forming one continuous all-over pattern. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 14 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A maroon-toned border frames the body with broad traditional zari work, giving the smaller body motifs a stronger visual anchor.

Pallu: The pallu is richly woven in gold zari with a dense geometric field and ornamented side registers, creating a fuller finish against the restrained butta body.

Styling: Pair it with maroon, antique gold or deep brown for a tonal blouse. Traditional gold jewellery, fresh jasmine and a neat Nivi drape keep the focus on the aligned Pavun buttas. This is an easy choice for gifting, poojas, Diwali visits, temple gatherings and family ceremonies.

What does Butta mean in this Kanjivaram saree?
Butta refers to individually woven motifs placed across the body rather than a continuous all-over pattern. In this saree, the buttas are arranged in a clean, regular rhythm that keeps the body visually balanced.
What is a Pavun butta?
Pavun is a traditional coin-inspired Kanchipuram motif. Here the small zari Pavun forms are aligned across the deep brown silk, giving the saree a classic old-Kanchi feel without making the body look heavy.
Is this a good Kanchipuram saree for gifting?
Its traditional colour story, orderly Pavun buttas and classic zari border make it particularly easy to gift for weddings, poojas, milestone birthdays and festive occasions. The design is recognisably Kanchipuram without being overly ornate.
Does this saree include a blouse piece?
Yes. It includes a 0.8 m running blouse piece within the 6.3 m total length. Custom blouse stitching is also available through Idam Living.
Are small variations normal in a handwoven saree?
Yes, slight variation in tension, motif placement or yarn joins can occur in handloom weaving. Idam Living inspects sarees before dispatch, and actual damage or staining is treated separately from normal handwoven variation.
