Deep Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Butta Saree with Bounding Deer Motif and Wide Zari Border
Deep Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Butta Saree with Bounding Deer Motif and Wide Zari Border
The movement in this saree comes from an unusual animal motif: a deer caught mid-bound, translated into the silk with a sense of forward stride. Against deep brown silk and a substantial grey-toned zari border, the motif feels distinctive without losing the discipline of a classic Kancheepuram.
❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 14 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Classified as a Butta saree, the body uses individually placed motifs rather than a continuous all-over brocade, allowing the bounding deer to read clearly against the dark silk. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 14 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: A wide, weighty grey-toned zari border grounds the body, framed with traditional floral and geometric detailing. The zari is described by its visual tone only; no unsupported zari-composition claim is made.
Pallu: The pallu carries a dense repeating zari field with fine geometric rhythm and ornamental side registers, giving the back drape a more concentrated metallic finish.
Styling: A blouse in deep brown, muted gold or a charcoal tone will keep the animal motif sophisticated. Choose sculptural gold jewellery rather than a very busy necklace, and wear the pallu open enough to show the woven field. It works well for cultural gatherings, ceremonies, receptions and festive dinners.
