Deep Arakku Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Rettapet Saree with Twin Peacock Border
Deep Arakku Maroon Handwoven Pure Silk Kancheepuram Rettapet Saree with Twin Peacock Border
For a wedding gathering or a quiet evening of celebration, deep arakku maroon silk carries the poetry of Kanchipuram: a dark arakku-maroon, the shade of lacquered temple wood and ripe pomegranate skin, with blackened plum shadows in the folds and old-gold zari highlights.
❖ Woven by hand in Kanchipuram over 18 days on the loom — a piece of a centuries-old weaving tradition, made with certified pure silk.

Woven in the Rettapet tradition, this pure mulberry silk saree balances petite elephant buttas across the body with a distinctive double-border composition. A dark arakku-maroon, the shade of lacquered temple wood and ripe pomegranate skin, with blackened plum shadows in the folds and old-gold zari highlights. The closely ordered zari elements bring a measured shimmer rather than an uninterrupted metallic surface. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 18 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Border: Twin peacocks repeat through two ornate antique-gold border bands; a fine glowing red selvedge brightens the otherwise deep palette. In Kanchipuram terminology, Rettapet describes the double-border arrangement; the paired mayil (peacock) figures have ornamental plumage and floral scrollwork.
Pallu: Vertical columns of old-gold zari alternate between delicate filaments and fuller scrolling mayil-vanki and kodi-malar patterns, giving the pallu a richly architectural rhythm. Explore the Rettapet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Style with antique-gold jewellery and a matching arakku or warm bronze blouse for an old-Kanchi mood.
