Warm cream silk gives this Varisaipet Kanchipuram a quiet base for its elaborate maroon-red border. Varisaipet is recognised by its rhythmic multi-band border arrangement, here enriched with handwoven elephant motifs and silk thread interwoven with zari. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: Deep maroon-red silk forms a richly layered Varisaipet border with repeated elephant motifs, gold zari and contrasting silk-thread detailing.

Pallu: The pallu expands into an elaborate arrangement of elephant registers, fine linear zari work and broad metallic bands against deep maroon-red silk.

Styling: A deep maroon blouse will echo the border most naturally. Antique gold jewellery, jasmine and a traditional pleated drape keep the warm cream body uncluttered while allowing the elephant border and pallu to remain the focus.

Especially suited to Navratri gatherings, Vijayadashami, Diwali, pujas, weddings, temple ceremonies, festive occasions, ceremonies, cultural gatherings and special occasions.

What is Varisaipet in this Kanchipuram saree?
Varisaipet refers to the traditional multi-band border arrangement. In this saree, the repeated registers create a strongly framed edge around the quiet cream body.
What motifs are woven into this saree?
Elephant motifs appear across the body and are repeated prominently through the maroon-red border and pallu, giving the saree a distinctly traditional Kanchipuram character.
Why does the cream and maroon combination work well for ceremonies?
The cream body keeps the drape luminous and composed, while the dark maroon-red and gold border gives it enough visual weight for pujas, temple occasions, weddings and family ceremonies.
