This Kanjipuram is woven in the Varisaipet tradition, the body a plain coral red pure mulberry silk carrying the distinctive Mayil chakram Butta — a two-material butta where the peacock eye motif is rendered in silk thread interwoven with zari. This combination of silk thread and gold zari in the same butta gives the body a surface richness that pure zari alone cannot achieve.
