Coral-Amethyst Shot Colour Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Korvai Saree with Sona Rupa Floral Buttas

Coral-Amethyst Shot Colour Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Korvai Saree with Sona Rupa Floral Buttas

The first impression is colour: coral moving into amethyst as the silk turns, with deep violet contrast sections anchoring the brightness. Between the linear zari work sit floral Sona Rupa motifs in alternating gold and silver tones, giving the body a remarkable sense of movement even before the border begins.

❖ Made to order, not off a shelf. This saree spent roughly 20 active days on the loom, in addition to dyeing, threading and finishing.

Woven in the Korvai tradition, the contrasting sections are structurally joined while the body carries a luminous double-shade effect. Fine linear zari work creates vertical order around alternating floral Sona Rupa buttas, allowing the coral and amethyst tones to remain the central feature. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 20 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Border: A broad amethyst-purple contrast border is built through stacked zari bands, balancing the vivid shot-colour body with a deeper architectural frame.

Pallu: The deep violet pallu is densely woven in zari with a geometric field and elaborately framed side registers.

Styling: Try deep amethyst for the blouse if you want the Korvai contrast to continue uninterrupted. Antique-gold jewellery suits ceremonies, while diamonds, pale stones or a single sculptural earring make the coral-amethyst colour shift feel especially striking for evening gatherings.

What does Korvai mean in this Kanjivaram saree?
Korvai is the traditional construction in which contrasting sections of a Kanchipuram saree are structurally interlocked during weaving. It allows the body and contrast areas to remain visually distinct rather than appearing as a printed or applied colour change.
Why does this saree appear coral in one view and amethyst in another?
The body has a double-shade shot colour. Different coloured silk threads interact with the light, so coral and amethyst tones become more or less visible as the fabric moves.
What are the gold and silver-toned floral motifs on the body?
They are alternating Sona Rupa floral buttas positioned between the linear zari work. The two metallic tones create a deliberate rhythm without covering the remarkable colour of the silk.
What blouse styling would work with this colour?
Deep amethyst makes the Korvai contrast feel continuous, while coral creates a more tonal look. A 0.8 m running blouse piece is included, and custom stitching is available through Idam Living.
Are small variations in a handwoven saree normal?
Minor variations in spacing, thread tension or handwoven detailing can occur in genuine handloom work. They are part of the individual woven character rather than evidence of printed mechanical uniformity.
