Chandanam Ivory Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Karu Neelam Mayil Border

Chandanam Ivory Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Karu Neelam Mayil Border

A graceful Chandanam–Venpattu Ivory Pure Silk Kanchipuram, warm as sandalwood cream and fresh jasmine petals touched by early-morning sunlight. This is not a stark white. The body carries a softened ivory warmth that allows the silk and zari to glow quietly rather than sharply.

❖ Handwoven to order over 42 days — dyeing through to the final weave, no two pieces identical.

This is a confirmed Zari Kattam composition. Fine classic-gold zari lines form a restrained check across the ivory field, punctuated with small traditional zari buttas including delicate paisley or bird-inspired forms and compact floral medallions. The geometry remains light and measured, giving the body structure without interrupting its calmness.

Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this level of handloom work represents approximately 19 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.

Zari Kattam: Kattam refers to the checked or grid-like structure woven across the silk field. Here, fine classic-gold zari lines create an orderly lattice over the Chandanam Ivory body, with small traditional buttas placed within and around the geometry.

Border: The contrast deepens dramatically into Karu Neelam, a saturated temple-indigo with a subtle violet cast, like the sky immediately after sunset. Against this near-twilight blue, the classic gold zari takes on an almost molten warmth.

The border is richly structured through traditional Kanchipuram registers. Mayil/Annam-style bird motifs repeat through the principal ornamental band, accompanied by broad lustrous zari panels, fine Reku lines and narrow geometric separators. Petite triangular temple-like edging sharpens the transition between the quiet ivory body and saturated Karu Neelam border.

Mundhanai: The pallu becomes considerably more elaborate. A dense diamond-lattice zari field fills the ground, while a wide vertical ornamental register carries large Maanga-inspired medallions surrounded by floral scrollwork. Multiple narrow zari bands frame the composition, producing the measured architectural rhythm of carved temple pillars translated into silk.

Styling: Continue the border with a Karu Neelam blouse for a striking traditional contrast, or choose Chandanam Ivory for a quieter tonal interpretation. Antique-finish temple jewellery, pearl details or warm gold jhumkas will complement the ivory and indigo palette beautifully. Keep the mundhanai open enough to reveal the Maanga medallions and gold lattice.

The Chandanam Ivory, Karu Neelam and Temple Gold palette works beautifully for Vijayadashami, Diwali, Karthigai Deepam, weddings, receptions, engagement ceremonies, temple programmes, classical performances and milestone family celebrations.
