Canary Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Zari Kattam Body and Gold Zari Border

Canary Yellow Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Saree with Zari Kattam Body and Gold Zari Border

Canary yellow in Kanchipuram Zari Kattam is one of the most joyful and auspicious colour combinations in the weaving tradition — a yellow that reads as gold in sunlight and as warm honey in shade, carried here in a body where fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid, the gold of the Zari Kattam weave blending almost seamlessly with the canary silk ground. Woven by our family’s artisan weaver families in Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

The canary yellow body is woven in Zari Kattam, where fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid. On canary yellow silk, the Zari Kattam grid creates a particularly rich effect — gold on gold, the silk and zari working together to produce a surface that appears to emanate warmth. No butta interrupts the full body: just the weave and the colour in sustained, beautiful rhythm across the full expanse.

The self-colour canary yellow border carries a clean gold zari band with a forest green accent at the outer edge — the classic auspicious Kanchipuram contrast that deepens the yellow with a complementary cool. The pallu continues in the same structure, the forest green accent holding the edge with quiet, traditional precision.

Styling: Canary yellow is worn for Ugadi, Akshaya Tritiya, Pongal, and all auspicious beginnings in the South Indian calendar. A self-colour canary yellow blouse is the most traditional and composed choice; a forest green blouse picks up the border accent. Pair with antique gold or ruby-set gold jewellery. This saree is also an excellent choice for naming ceremonies, first birthday rituals, and Seemantham.
