Burgundy Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Gandaberunda

Burgundy Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram Zari Kattam Saree with Gandaberunda

One of our bestselling sarees this season, this burgundy-brown silk, carrying a deep Kanchana purple undertone, recalls aged lacquer beneath a temple lamp and gathers little squares of molten thanga zari. Gandaberunda forms and tiny circular buttas glimmer over the body, before the pallu unfolds like an old Kanchi bronze relief in antique gold.

❖ Handwoven in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — this saree spent 16 days on the loom, woven by artisan families who have practiced this craft for generations.

Woven in the Zari Kattam Kanchipuram tradition, this handwoven pure mulberry silk saree pairs a burgundy-brown body with a deep Kanchana purple undertone with neatly arranged gold zari kattam and alternating Gandaberunda-inspired twin-bird motifs and circular zari medallions inside the checks. A broad antique-gold border of richly worked Yaanai elephants, Mayil peacock detailing, ornamental flowering scrolls and small geometric bands, with a fine burgundy-brown finishing edge. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
