Arakku Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Saree with Zari Kattam Gandaberunda Butta and Varisaipet Border

Arakku Red Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Saree with Zari Kattam Gandaberunda Butta and Varisaipet Border

Arakku red Kanchipuram silk is the colour of the most significant ceremonies in the South Indian ritual calendar — the red worn by brides, mothers, and daughters at the occasions that define a family's life. This Kanjeevaram is a bridal-weight saree woven in the Zari Kattam technique, where fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid. Each saree takes 8–12 days on the loom and cannot be replicated by machine. Woven by our family's artisan weaver families in Kunnam village near Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu — read our story.

The arakku red body is woven in Zari Kattam, where fine zari threads intersect across the silk body to form a luminous grid. Gandaberunda Butta — the sacred two-headed eagle, one of the most powerful motifs in South Indian temple and royal iconography — are woven in gold zari at measured intervals. Explore our full range of Gandaberunda Motif Kanchipuram sarees.

The thick Varisaipet border carries dense gold zari in layered bands of full weight, and the pallu continues the same Varisaipet structure — colour, motif, and border all in the highest ceremonial register of Kanchipuram weaving.

Styling: For Tamil and Telugu wedding ceremonies, Seemantham (baby shower ritual), and Navarathri. A self-colour arakku red blouse is the most traditional choice. Pair with heavy gold jewellery — broad necklace, large jhumkas, and gold bangles stacked to the elbow.
