Arakku Plum Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Poo-Kodi Jaal & Pon Vandu Gold Pallu

Arakku Plum Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Poo-Kodi Jaal & Pon Vandu Gold Pallu

Deep Arakku-Plum gives this handwoven Pure Silk Kanchipuram an extraordinary jewel-toned depth, moving between burgundy, maroon and a subtle plum cast as the silk catches the light. Warm thanga zari sits against the dark field with an antique-gold glow, creating the richness of an older temple brocade.

❖ This saree took 40 days to make — the silk is dyed, threaded, and hand-woven over roughly 16 on the loom.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, woven with an unusually dense all-over Poo-Kodi Jaal rather than isolated buttas alone. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The body is unusually elaborate, woven with an all-over Poo-Kodi Jaal rather than relying only on isolated buttas. Curling floral vines, small blossoms and stylized Mayil-inspired forms move continuously across the silk, building a dense ornamental rhythm while still allowing the Arakku-Plum ground to show through. At the Pettu, the balance shifts dramatically toward gold. Dense geometric Kattam registers are layered with fine Seer bands, floral medallion rows and closely worked zari panels, creating a broad architectural border whose richness feels distinctly old-Kanchi. The pallu becomes almost luminous in Pon Vandu Gold, densely woven with minute floral and paisley-inspired geometry. Fine ornamental bands frame the gold field and amplify its temple-brocade character. Against the deep Arakku-Plum body, the result is dramatic, ceremonial and unmistakably rooted in traditional Kanchipuram silk. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Current Look

Deep burgundy and antique gold have returned to the red carpet in a contemporary Kanjivaram-inspired language. This Arakku-Plum Kanchipuram carries that same compelling colour conversation through a deeply traditional handwoven vocabulary: jewel-toned silk, warm antique-gold zari and an exceptionally luminous gold pallu.

Styling: Let the unusually rich gold weaving remain the focal point. An Arakku-Plum blouse keeps the silhouette continuous, while a muted antique-gold blouse can echo the Pon Vandu pallu for a more ceremonial treatment. Antique temple jewellery, Kemp stones or deep garnet accents work naturally with the burgundy-plum and old-gold palette.
