Arakku Kumkum Red Pure Silk Kanchipuram Butta Saree with Mayil Gold Zari Border

A deep Arakku–Kumkum Red Pure Silk Kanchipuram, saturated somewhere between crushed hibiscus petals and the vermilion used in temple ritual. The silk gives the colour its characteristic Kanchipuram luminosity, shifting through deeper garnet-red folds rather than reading as a flat red surface.

This is a confirmed Butta composition. Small classic gold zari buttas are placed with measured spacing across the body, allowing the Arakku colour to remain dominant. The restrained ornament gives the body a ceremonial richness without interrupting the sweep and depth of the red silk.

Border: The lower edge opens into a substantial Kaal Irangiya-style broad zari treatment. Fine geometric Reku lines frame a prominent procession of large Mayil-inspired figures worked in warm traditional gold zari. Against the deep Kumkum Red ground, the gold has the glow of aged temple brass catching lamplight.

Kaal Irangiya: In Kanchipuram border vocabulary, Kaal Irangiya describes a broad border treatment that visually descends farther into the body of the saree. Here the term is used to describe the generous architectural gold-border appearance; the owner-confirmed product classification remains Butta.

Pallu: The pallu becomes considerably more elaborate, opening into a dense diamond-lattice zari field. Ornamental vertical registers carry large maanga-inspired forms and traditional geometric details, separated by fine linear bands. The repetition gives the pallu the architectural rhythm associated with older Kanchipuram ceremonial weaving.

Current Look: Deep burgundy and antique gold have returned prominently to contemporary South Indian occasion dressing, including Keerthy Suresh’s September 2026 TIFF look inspired by Kanjivaram textile language. This saree is not connected to that appearance, but its deep Arakku red and warm temple-gold palette sit naturally within the same current ceremonial colour direction.

Styling: Keep the blouse in deep Arakku or Kumkum Red for a strong tonal treatment, or choose Antique Gold to echo the broad zari border. Temple jewellery, traditional jhumkas or one substantial gold necklace will complement the Mayil motifs beautifully. Wear the pallu open enough to reveal the diamond lattice and architectural registers.
