A luminous Aqua Turquoise gives this pure silk Kanjipuram saree an unexpected lightness before the border changes its character completely. The body is clear, fresh and almost sea-green in the light, while deep navy, Vadamalli magenta and gold form a richly layered frame around it. Body, Border and Pallu: The body follows the Butta tradition with individually spaced zari-woven Mayil buttas, allowing large areas of pure mulberry silk to remain visible so each little point of gold becomes more distinct against the cool body colour. The border is where the saree becomes dramatically more intricate: deep navy silk forms the ground for Vadamalli-magenta bands and numerous gold zari registers, with large Mayil figures alternating with circular ornamental medallions through the principal band, surrounded by smaller floral and geometric zari patterns.
