Antique Sage Gold Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Butta Saree with Kanchana Purple Banarasi-Style Jaal Zari Border

Antique Sage Gold Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjeevaram Butta Saree with Kanchana Purple Banarasi-Style Jaal Zari Border

Antique Sage Gold gives this pure silk Kanjeevaram saree an unusually nuanced metallic colour. The silk begins with a muted sage-green cast, then fine chevron-like zari weaving moves almost continuously through the body, allowing the surface to shift toward pale olive and burnished old gold as the light changes. At the edge, Kanchana Purple introduces a completely different visual language through dense floral, foliate and bird-filled zari ornament. The saree remains Kanchipuram in provenance and construction, while the abundance of its jaal-like decoration gives it a distinct Banarasi-style fusion character.

❖ From raw silk to finished saree: 40 days, including about 16 of hand-weaving on the loom.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, its all-over chevron zari texture interpreting the spaced-motif Butta tradition as one continuous metallic field. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 12 to 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: Very fine metallic lines repeat closely across the Antique Sage Gold silk in a chevron structure, so the body shifts between muted sage green, pale olive and burnished old gold depending on the light. The Kanchana Purple border moves from texture into ornament, with flowering branches, curling foliage and stylized birds woven densely across the purple ground in warm gold. The pallu opens into extensive gold fields, fine geometric repeats and multiple ornamental registers, moving between pale gold, deeper antique gold and purple-edged sections. Browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Let the Kanchana Purple guide the styling. A blouse in the same purple gives the strongest connection to the richly woven border, while a muted sage blouse creates a quieter and more contemporary tonal continuation. Antique gold jewellery suits the softened metallic character particularly well. Keep the hair in a sleek low bun or long braid for weddings, receptions, temple celebrations, Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali and formal family gatherings.

Why is this called an Antique Sage Gold Kanchipuram?
The body sits between muted sage green, pale olive and antique gold rather than reading as one flat colour. Fine metallic weaving covers much of the silk, so the balance changes with light and movement. In brighter light the gold becomes dominant, while softer angles reveal more of the cool sage undertone.
What makes this a Banarasi-style Kanchi fusion saree?
The saree is handwoven in Kanchipuram and remains a Pure Silk Kanchipuram saree. Banarasi-style describes the densely connected floral and foliate jaal-like ornament of the border and the overall abundance of the zari treatment. It does not indicate Banarasi provenance.
Is the metallic body woven as separate individual buttas?
The visible body treatment is predominantly continuous rather than widely spaced. Fine chevron-like metallic lines repeat closely across the silk to create an all-over textured surface. Butta remains the confirmed Kanchipuram type supplied for this saree.
What appears in the Kanchana Purple zari border?
The border carries a densely connected arrangement of flowering branches, foliage and stylized bird forms woven in warm gold against Kanchana Purple silk. Small coloured details appear in selected bird motifs, adding subtle contrast within the larger purple and gold composition.
Which blouse works best with Antique Sage Gold?
Kanchana Purple gives the strongest traditional contrast and connects directly with the border. A muted sage or olive-toned blouse creates a quieter tonal look and emphasizes the changing metallic body. Antique gold jewellery complements both approaches naturally.
