Antique Olive Green and Deep Espresso Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Rettapet Saree with Vintage Gold Zari Buttas

Antique Olive Green and Deep Espresso Brown Handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram Rettapet Saree with Vintage Gold Zari Buttas

There is something beautifully old-world about the colour of this handwoven Pure Silk Kanjivaram saree. The body is an Antique Olive Green, moving between softened moss, muted chartreuse and warm olive as the silk changes through the light. Small gold zari buttas are placed at measured intervals across the body, leaving generous stretches of silk visible and allowing the unusual colour to remain central.

❖ Handwoven to order, not mass-produced — approximately 7 to 11 active days on the loom, reflecting weaving time only and excluding silk preparation, dyeing, warping, loom setup and finishing.

This is a confirmed Rettapet composition in pure mulberry silk, its distinctive gap border leaving visible breathing room of plain silk between richly woven antique-gold zari bands. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 7 to 11 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.

Body, Border and Pallu: The border is where the saree develops its distinctive rhythm. Deep Espresso Brown silk creates wide areas of negative space between traditional antique-gold zari bands, while fine vermilion-red lines introduce a subtle flash of warmth. The zari carries repeating ornamental forms framed by smaller woven borders, but the broader brown intervals prevent the design from becoming visually heavy. The pallu becomes far richer, turning predominantly Deep Espresso Brown and alternating broad silk bands with long vertical passages of gold zari ornamentation. A densely woven central zari field adds further texture. Against the restrained olive body, the pallu feels almost architectural when brought over the shoulder, transforming a quiet body into a ceremonial finish. Explore the Rettapet collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.

Styling: Keep the palette deep and intentional. A plain Deep Espresso Brown blouse creates the strongest continuation of the border, while Antique Olive keeps the look beautifully tonal. Choose antique-gold jewellery, perhaps one traditional necklace or substantial earrings rather than several competing pieces. Finish with a centre-parted low bun and jasmine, or a long traditional braid with restrained gold accents.
