Antique Gold Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Butta Saree with Kanchana Purple Banarasi-Style Jaal Zari Border
Antique Gold Handwoven Pure Silk Kanchi Pattu Butta Saree with Kanchana Purple Banarasi-Style Jaal Zari Border
Antique Gold is woven almost as texture in this pure silk Kanchi Pattu saree. The body carries a fine, closely repeated chevron-like zari structure that gives the silk an unusually tone-intensive surface, shifting from pale gold to deeper burnished gold as the light changes. Against it sits a Kanchana Purple border, densely woven with floral jaal, foliage and stylized bird forms in warm zari. The saree remains unmistakably Kanchipuram in origin and construction, while its ornamental language carries a distinctly Banarasi-style richness.
❖ 40 days in the making. From dyed silk thread to finished weave, with about 16 of that on the loom itself.

This is a confirmed Butta composition in pure mulberry silk, with individually spaced woven motifs across the body interpreted here through a dense Banarasi-style jaal border. A saree of this type typically represents approximately 12 to 16 active days on the loom, although individual weaving time varies. Woven for Idam Living by skilled artisan families in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. Read our story.
Body, Border and Pallu: The body carries a fine, closely repeated chevron-like zari structure that gives the silk an unusually tone-intensive surface, shifting from pale gold to deeper burnished gold as the light changes. The Kanchana Purple border is densely woven with interconnected floral and foliate forms, stylized birds and larger central ornamental compositions in repeated framed panels. The pallu intensifies the idea further: antique gold expands into closely woven geometric fields, miniature repeated zari forms and long ornamental registers, while the Kanchana Purple edge continues the elaborate floral treatment. Browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Let the weaving remain the focus. A Kanchana Purple blouse creates the strongest connection with the border, while an Antique Gold blouse gives the saree an almost uninterrupted metallic appearance. Traditional gold jewellery works naturally here, but keep the number of pieces considered rather than excessive because the textile already carries substantial ornament. A polished low bun or long braid gives the saree the composure it needs for weddings, receptions, temple celebrations and major festive gatherings.
