Woven in the Kanchipuram Butta tradition, this Banarasi–Kanchipuram fusion brings a substantial, dense-ply silk character to a richly ornamented surface. The body carries fine zari kattam-inspired gridwork and floral detailing, while Banarasi-inspired Mughal motifs find expression through the grandeur and structure of Kanchipuram silk. Handwoven by artisan weaver families in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, for Idam Living. A saree of this complexity represents approximately 16 or more active days on the loom, with exact weaving time varying according to the individual saree. Read our story.
Body: The substantial, densely woven silk body glows like late-afternoon sunlight on temple brass, shifting between antique gold and burnished bronze. An intricate all-over zari kattam-like lattice carries delicate floral detailing; the woven geometry opens into finer diamond and interlocking patterns as the pleats move.
Border: A striking Kathiripoo purple border, recalling the deep violet of brinjal blossoms at dusk, is enriched with indigo, muted teal and silver-lilac highlights. Large circular medallions hold paired elephant figures beneath stylised flowering trees, surrounded by luxuriant Mughal-inspired vines and ornamental floral panels. A fine purple edge finishes the composition.
Pallu: The grand pallu gathers densely packed golden zari fields, ornamental floral bands and lustrous plain-gold panels against the purple contrast. Its changing textures — from fine lattice to almost solid metallic sheen — make it a true showstopper. Explore the Butta collection, or browse the wider pure silk Kanchipuram collection for more of this character.
Styling: Pair with a Kathiripoo purple silk blouse or a restrained antique-gold blouse, temple jewellery and a softly structured drape for weddings, receptions and family celebrations.
